Fund for chemical fire victims

The Nation 02 June 2012

A rubber-processing company located in Rayong's Map Ta Phut industrial estate yesterday founded a Bt10million fund for residents affected by a chemical fire at a factory last month.

A senior official of BST Elastomer Co Ltd, Suphachol Nithiwasin, said the firm had paid another Bt17 million in treatment costs to those sustaining injuries and for construction of homes damaged by the fire. The money was handed to the provincial authorities yesterday at a ceremony and will be overseen by a panel of senior officials and the firm’s management.

The chemical fire on May 5 killed 11 people including seven workers and caused injuries to 194 people living near the plant.
